Setting up your website template:

Step 1:
EDIT FLASH ANIMATION: | Click for more details
Open the "flash.txt" file in Notepad and change "yourwebsitetitle.com" after the "logo=" and after the "&logo_protected=" with your band or website name. Be sure not to delete the "logo=" or "&logo_protected=". This will update the Flash logo on all pages. If you wish to use a graphic logo, there are instructions later in this document.

THE FLASH IMAGE SHOW:
The animation in the homepage window is showing 8 .jpg images. You will find these images in the "flash" folder. You can simply replace "image1.jpg" through "image8.jpg" with any standard .jpg images and the flash will update. Make your images 200 x 200 pixels in size.

Step 2:
EDIT COPYRIGHT: | Click for more details
Open the "copyright.js" file in Notepad or any text editor and change the "Your Name or Band" and "info@yourdomain.com" lines to match your information. This will update the footer info on all pages.

Step 3:
EDIT CONTACT INFO: | Click for more details
Open the "phone.js" file in Notepad or any text editor and change the company name, address, phone number and e-mail address. This will change contact info on the "contact" page.

Step 4:
EDIT THE CONTACT FORM: | Click for more details
If you are setup with an AllWebCo hosting account or your hosting company uses Formmail, go to your control panel at "http://your-domain.com/cgi-bin/plusmail" and install the free script "Formail" then edit the contact page called "window-contact.htm" in Notepad or any text editor and replace "your-domain.com" in 3 places with your domain.

If you are not set up with AllWebCo hosting or do not have "Formail" installed. You can either setup the contact form to use another contact script, install "Formail" on your server or you can remove the contact form from the pages between the comment tags. Click for help.

If you wish to change the sizes of the form elements you can open the "coolstyle.css" in Notepad or any text editor and change the ".shadeform" ".textarea" and ".dropdown" width numbers.

Step 5:
SETTING UP THE GALLERY: | Click for more details | Thumbnail Help
Because this template includes a slideshow, the best way to setup the pictures in the gallery and the slide show at the same time is not to actually edit the HTML pages and change the pictures on each individual page. The fastest way is to simply replace the pictures in the "gallery" folder with your own by overwriting the files that are in there now and using the same generic names.

Replace the "Fgallery" pictures in the "gallery" folder with full size photos. Replace the "gallery" pictures with your thumbnails. The thumbnails are now most likely 100 x 67 pixels and full size images are 500 x 333 but you can make them any size that you prefer.

PICTURE VIEWING AND SLIDESHOW OPTIONS: | Click for more details
This template includes many options for the pop-closeup.js including pop-up or full browser image views. To change these options, open your "pop-closeup.js" in Notepad and put a "yes" or "no" (all lowercase) for the options you want to change. You can also change the height and width variables and colors as well as turn on and off the scrollbars. See the notes in the "pop-closeup.js" for details. The background colors are defined in the "coolstyle.css". See "quick color change" options later in the document.

Step 6:
EDIT THE SOUND FILES:
All the sounds used on this template can be found in 2 locations. In the "sounds" folder and in the "sounds_protected" folder inside the "protected-area" folder.

HOMEPAGE SOUND:
The index.html on this template has a background sound named "homepage.mp3". This file can be found in the "sounds" folder. Replace this mp3 with a file of the same name to use your mp3 on the home page, or you can replace this sound by creating a .wav, .mid or .mp3 file and putting your newly created sound file in this website folder. Then, edit the index.html and change the code following the "START SOUND CODE, DELETE TO REMOVE" notes in the index.html. Replace "home-sound.mp3" in 2 places. To remove the sound delete between the notes in the index.html.

SOUND GALLERIES: | Click for more details
The samples page and protected "sound gallery" can use any type of sounds, .mp3, .mid, .wav or any other browser compatible files. You will replace all the .mp3 files in the "sounds" folder (used on the window-samples.htm page) and in the "protected-area/sounds_protected" folder (used on the 4 sound-?.htm pages) with your own. Each mp3 file is named for the page and placement on the page. Example: "songp1-1.mp3" is on "protected-area/sound-1.htm", spot 1. "songp2-12.mp3" is on "protected-area/sound-2.htm", spot 12. It's quicker to simply replace these mp3 files rather than edit the HTML pages, although you can do this either way so your names will match your actual song names. Editing the mp3 HTML code is best done in Notepad or HTML view before you start editing the pages using wysiwyg HTML software.

Step 7:
EDIT THE MP3 PLAYER PAGES: | Click for more details
You will edit the "player-home.htm" in the "sounds" folder with your band info. Replace the 4 "player-image??.jpg" files in the picts folder with your own images. These images are 350 x 58 and 50 x 50 pixels. This will update the "samples" page mp3 "player" window.

Edit the second "player-home.htm" that is in the "protected-area" folder then in the "sounds_protected" folder the same way as you will edit above page.

Step 8:
EDIT THE PRESS KIT VIDEO MESSAGE: | Click for more details
The default WinMedia message is called "welcome.mp3" and the Quicktime file is called "welcome.mov". These can be found in the "message" folder. You can replace these with your own files to update the message pages. Edit the "welcome-quicktime.htm" and "welcome-winmedia.htm" HTML pages in the "message" folder to edit the message popup text. To change the message file type or popup size see "options" below. Click above to view the message setup and support page.

Step 9:
SETUP THE PASSWORD PROTECTED AREA | Click for more details
This template includes password protection. You have the option to have users pay through Paypal to join, or to sign up for your mailing list to join. Click here for setup details. Once you login, all the files in this area can be found in the "protected-area" folder. You can change the password or the security options. There also is a thank you page included. The robots.txt file in this template is to keep search engines out of the protected-area folder.

Step 10:
EDIT PAGES: | Software choices | Notepad Editing
Change the text on all pages to match your information. You can use Frontpage, Dreameaver or any wysiwyg editor or a text editor like Notepad. Take care not to delete any of the HTML tags that surround the text if you use Notepad.

Step 11:
EDIT PAGE TITLES, DESCRIPTIONS AND KEYWORDS: | Click for more details
Open each of the pages and change the page titles (at the very top of the page) and also the description and the keywords to match your product or service. You can edit one page and copy and paste to the other pages. Be careful to only change what's inside the "" so you don't disturb the html code. Keywords are very important so your site will get a good listing at Google or Msn and other search engines.

Step 12:
UPLOAD: | Click for more details
Upload the pages on to your hosting company's server using ftp software like CuteFTP or Coffee Cup (free) or your control panel. Be sure to make a folder called picts on your server and put the pictures into that folder. If you have AllWebCo hosting be sure to put everything in the "www" folder.

Options:

USING A GRAPHIC LOGO:
You can replace the Flash logo with a graphic one. To do this, delete or rename the header.js, then rename the "graphic_logo_header.js" to "header.js". In the picts folder you will find a graphic called "logo.jpg", open this graphic and edit it with your logo.

PRESS KIT MESSAGE OPTIONS: | Click for more details
You can change the message popup sizes by editing the pop-closeup.js. To resize the message video/audio area edit the "player-quicktime.js" and "player-winmedia.js" files in the "message" folder. To change the file to use for the welcome message popups edit the "player-quicktime.js" and "player-winmedia.js" in the "message folder". For Windows Media it's best to use a .wma file for video or mp3 for audio. For the Quicktime player it's best to use a .mov file for video and a .mp3 for audio. The HTML page that has the links for the message on the press kit page is named "window-press.htm".

PAGE HEIGHTS:
So all your pages will maintain a standard height a "pageheight.js" file was included. Edit this file in Notepad and you can change the height="750" to any height you need.

SITE MAP PAGE:
The "site_map.htm" is linked from the index.html. It is best not to remove this link so search engines can find your site map and properly list all your pages when users search at major search engines.

COLOR CHANGES: | Click for more details | More color details
This template features quick color changes. You will edit these files in Notepad to change the colors: The coolstyle.css, pop-closeup.js and the header.js. Click the above link for details.

FONTS: | Click for more details
You can change your font colors and sizes by editing the "coolstyle.css" with a text editor. You can find other font colors by clicking here. You can also change the font sizes in the "coolstyle.css" file. Change the "TABLE" px size to change the copy on all pages. Change the "subtitle" px size to change all the subtitle sizes.

EDITING THE MP3 PLAYER VARIABLES: | Click for more details
You can control the size of the player popup, or make the player full browser size. Open the "pop-closeup.js" in a text editor and edit the variables near the top of this file. Or edit the "pop-closeup_protected.js" in the "protected-area" folder for the other sound popups.

THE ZIP DOWNLOAD PAGE:
This page is created so users can download your zip files. You can have anything you would like included. You will find the 4 linked empty .zip files in the "protected-area" folder. Edit the zipped.htm to change the page. NOTE: You must upload the template to check the zip links. They may not work on your local hard drive.

CHANGING / ADDING MENU BUTTONS: | Click for more details
You can change the names and links on the menus to other page names by editing the "menu.js", the "menu_windows.js" and the "menu_protected.js" (in the protected-area folder). Only change the one instance of the name and not the name with the ".htm" after it unless you want the page link to change. Whatever you change in any of the 3 menus will change every page on the website. Keep the names short so the menus stay neat. You can even add more pages but copying one button in one of the menu.js files and pasting it right below the next. Be sure to back up your files before you edit them.

PAGE TARGETS:
Because some pages are opening in the window, you will need targets on your links. Open your "menu.js" file in Notepad. You will see that for example the "Samples" link has target="soundframe" in the link so it will open in the window. In the "menu_windows.js" you will see that the "Home" link has target="_top" in the link. These are the only two target types you will need to use.

THE RIGHT SIDE WINDOWS: | Click for IFrame info
On all pages in this template there is a window on the right side. This window is showing an HTML page "embedded" inside another HTML page. EXAMPLE: The index.html or homepage is showing the "window-welcome.htm" in the left window area. You can edit both of these HTML pages. Edit the size of this window by editing the "INLINE FRAME" in the main HTML pages.

PICTURES: | Click for more details
You can replace the pictures in the "picts" folder with your own. The pictures are now 200 x 200, 200 x 125, and 200 x 100 pixels but you can use any size picture you want but 200 pixels wide is recommended. Each page has it's own picture which is named according to the page it's on. You will find all pictures in the "picts" and "gallery" folders. You will find the 8 images used in the Flash inside your "flash" folder.

SETTING UP THE SLIDESHOW PICTURES: | Click for more details
The slideshow is currently setup to display all the pictures in the gallery folder. If you would like to add or remove pictures from the slideshow, open the slideshow.htm in Notepad and look for the "EDIT THIS AREA" note. Copy and paste to add new pictures to the list, or delete lines to remove pictures. You can also set the AutoPlay speed. Look for "var rotate_delay = 3000".

SIZING THE SLIDESHOW:
See "PICTURE VIEWING AND SLIDESHOW OPTIONS" above on this page.

USING THE SOUND PAGES FOR VIDEO:
You can make a copy of any sound.htm page and set this new page up for video.
  1. Create a new folder in your template folder and name this folder "videos". Copy the 8 files in the "sounds" folder that start with "player-" into your new video folder.
  2. Make a copy of the "pop-closeup.js" and name this copy "pop-video.js".
  3. Edit the "pop-video.js" and search and replace "sounds" with "videos" in 3 places.
  4. Make a copy of the "sound-1.htm" page and call this "video-1.htm".
  5. Edit the new "video-1.htm" page and change the line near the top (line 23) to call the pop-video.js instead of the pop-closeup.js.
  6. Delete the "player-flash.js" in the "videos" folder.
  7. In the "videos" folder edit the "player-home.htm" and remove the Flash player area.
  8. Place your video files in the "videos" folder.
  9. You can edit the player sizes by editing the .js files in your "videos" folder to properly fit your movies.
  10. In the new "video-1.htm" page find the .mp3 links. Example: find "song1-1.mp3" and change these to link to your .wmv, .mpg, .mpeg, .mov or any other video file you are using.
  11. Open the menu.js and add a link to the "video-1.htm"

ADDING PAGES OR GALLERIES: | Click for more details
There are two types of pages in the template. The main outside pages, and the "window" pages. Window pages start with "window-" in the name except for in the protected-area folder. You can add pages to your website by copying and pasting any one of the pages and renaming it to whatever you need. You can then add links from the other pages or even add the page to the menu by opening the menu.js (see help above) and copying and pasting one of the buttons below another. There are notes in the gallery pages to help you copy and paste to add more pictures and more galleries. Be sure to back up your files before you edit them.
